Online Personal Security and Password Protection

The following information can help keep your confidential information safe while using Midwest BankCentre’s Online Banking services. If you ever feel your online profile has been compromised we recommend you change your password and contact us at (314) 631-5500 or (800) 894-1350 if you need additional assistance.

Upon enrollment to Online Banking, we require you to change your Online Banking password for security purposes. Your password must be alphanumeric (numbers and letters) and be 6-8 characters in length. Your password can be changed under the "Options.' section of Online Banking.

Please see your Online Banking Master Services Agreement for a description of  your responsibilities and the extent of the Bank’s liability regarding unauthorized transactions using Online Banking services.

General rules of thumb for Online Banking:

  • Change your passwords often.
  • Do not use the same ID and password for every online service that  you have.
  • Do not give your ID and password  to anyone that you do not want to have access to your accounts.  Do not store this information where others could gain access to it.
  • Use passwords that are challenging (alpha-numeric and non-repeating characters). Choose a hard-to-guess password by using random letters and numbers. Do not use words that can be found in a dictionary or information related to you, such as your name, address, birthdate, etc.
  • Disable any Auto Complete or similar features on any computer you use for online banking.
  • Remember to log out when you are finished banking online or are leaving the computer unattended.
  • Avoid using any computers that do not belong to you.
  • Avoid using regular email to share information about your account with Midwest BankCentre.

Personal Computer

  • Learn to use built—in security features that are provided with your Internet browser instead of disabling them.
  • Keep your system and applications current with updates from your computer service provider.  Install any updates and service packs that are available.
  • Use virus and spyware protection software and keep it up to date in order to detect new threats.
  • Use a software or hardware firewall to protect your computer from network intrusion.
  • Make sure that any wireless network to which you connect your computer is secured and requires encryption.  NEVER USE UNSECURED PUBLIC WIRELESS SYSTEMS FOR ANY BANKING SERVICES.
  • Do not download files, install software or open email attachments from unverified or unknown sources.

For Business Commercial 

  • Use a dedicated computer for online banking and other computers for e-mail and other online activities. 
  • Secure your computer to your desk with a theft proof locking system.
  • Get professional advice about securing access to your computer.
